As Christians do we still have to keep the 7th day Sabbath? or was it nailed to the cross?

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:...

Jesus does not abolish Sabbath: ';Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. (Matt 5:17-18)

Jesus kept the Sabbath

All 12 Disciples kept the Sabbath

Tradition committed the Commandments: Jesus said: Why do you transgress the Commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? (Matt 15:3) Jesus also said: In vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the precepts of men. (Matt 15:9)

You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it; that you may keep the Commandments of the Lord your God which I command you. (Deut 4:2)

Prophesy on changes of Commandments: He shall speak words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the Most High, and shall think to change the times and the law; and they shall be given into his hand for a time, two times, and half a time. (Dan 7:25)

if you love me keep my commandmentsAs Christians do we still have to keep the 7th day Sabbath? or was it nailed to the cross?
The Sabbath is a Jewish / Old Testament Tradition. The day most recognized by Christan's is the Lords Day, which is Sunday. The Sabbath is Saturday. We recognize this day because it was the Day the Lord rose from the Dead and ascended into Heaven to be with the Father.As Christians do we still have to keep the 7th day Sabbath? or was it nailed to the cross?
Jesus is identified as the God of the old covenant. What happens when either party to a covenant dies, such as a marriage covenant? The covenant ends. Read the opening of Romans 7.

With the death of Christ, the old covenant came to an end, and the new covenant was instituted in the manner of a testament. Both old and new covenants are also treated as testaments (last will and testament).

Only Israel was commanded to keep the sabbath. It was the sign of that covenant, and a sign between God and Israel, and not God and all mankind.

.
Jews counted their spice seeds and gave 10% to the Levites.

They thought they could do anything they wanted with the other 90%.

As Christians, everything (100%) belongs to the Lord.

We read that the Christians met daily.

We don't keep the Sabbath, or keep Sunday, but every day belongs to the Lord. (The Lord made the days.)

If there is something you feel you should not do on the Sabbath, or on Sunday, as the case may be, then maybe you shouldn't do it on any day of the week.
It is the 4th commandment...

Remember the Sabbath Day and keep it Holy...

Jesus was the fulfillment of the law, he did not do away with the law...we are still bound by the law of the commandments in addition to the 2 more commandments that Christ added that encompass all the law..

The special Sabbaths that were part of the Temple Worship were the ceremonial special Sabbaths they were part of the law that was done away with.

The regular weekly Sabbath has been since the beginning of time and shall continue to the end of time and we shall observe the Sabbath in Heaven.

Along with the keeping of the Sabbath many people seem to misinterpret that the dietary laws were done away with also at the cross and this is a very unhealthy assumption. Why would unhealthy unclean items been OK to eat after the cross?? Salvation was for man not for the pig and the crab..

The first day of the work week is sunday, the resurrection on the first day of the week Christ arose to begin his work...

why would everything go from Sabbath worship before the cross, to sunday worship after the cross, and then back to Sabbath worship in heaven after the judgment?

that makes no sense?
Funny, I was just discussing this %26amp; mulling it over for the last several weeks!

Anyhow, here are a couple key verses in my studies-

Romans 14:5-8

Romans 6:14

Colossians 2:16-17

Hebrews 4

My conclusion was-

that we are no longer REQUIRED to keep the Sabbath. However, in view of God's pattern of work %26amp; rest, we would be wise to take a rest from our labors to refocus %26amp; realign ourselves to God %26amp; to just rest our bodies %26amp; minds.

Also, according to Hebrews 4 we are already in our Sabbath rest, in Christ. And yet the complete consumation of rest will happen when we are finally in his presence.

You need to be convinced in your own mind, and live for the Lord.

If you want to discuss this farther, I would love to. Email me.
“The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish.

The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof;

because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance,broken the everlasting covenant.”

Isaiah 24:4,5
The word Sabbath means (rest) and does not relate to any specific day.

The seventh day rest was given to the Jews.

The first day rest was in honor of the resurrection of Jesus whom we Christians believe died for our sins.

Everything was nailed to the cross.

Jesus came, not do do away with the law, but to fulfill it.

The law was a tutor until Jesus died for our sins, past, present and future.

grace2u
Actually we do both.

The average work week still ends on Friday(6th day), with Saturday(7th day) reserved for our rest and relaxation. Sunday (1st day) reserved for meeting around the Lord's Table in reflection of what He did for us, and of our lives of servitude.

Most of us work a 5 day work week. With the last and first day off. In reality, Lord's Day(the 1st day) is a work day, set aside for us to work on ourselves through mediation and service to Him. Amazing how after all this time, our societies still take their cues from God whether they realize it or not.
';Because Easter Sunday is FOR SALE.';

';No other reason why most of America worship on Sunday.';

';It is impossible for the poor to keep the Sabbath Day.';

';Their lepers and the beggars that Jesus CHRIST healed,

were mostly Palestinians.';

';The ones that were demon possessed were Hebrews.';

';Even they kept the Sabbath Day, or were stoned to death.';
Jesus said he came not to do away with the law but to FULFILL the law. We are no longer under the LAW.

God knew that NO ONE could EVER keep the commandments, thus when Jesus came he gave us TWO commandments that we MUST do, and those are ';Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, soul, and mind, and thy neighbor as thyself,'; in these two all are fulfilled, and God is pleased.

But foremost one MUST accept Jesus as their SAVIOR and Lord to have THEIR Sabbath rest. As CHRIST IS OUR SABBATH REST. He said on the cross, it is FINISHED. NOTHING else needs to be done but how we treat HIM!
I suggest that you read the sections of the Hebrew law concerning the sabbath. Specifically where it mentions that the Sabbath is a sign between God and the Hebrews.
I learned the other day on YA that everything in the old testament was abolished by Jesus. Nothing in it is remotely relevant to Christians. You don't have to abide by any of it.
The New Covenatnt was prophesied in the Old Covenant times. Jesus brought in the New Covenant. The church has never been under the old one.

Mat 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Jer 31:31-34 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant ... this shall be the covenant that I will make ...I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.... And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

Under the New Covenant we recieve the Spirit as the prophet Joel also prophesied would happen in th New Covenant. (Joel 2:27-32)

Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Act 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

The ceremonial law was not carried over into the New Covenant. Ceremonial law was a shadow pointing towards the coming of Christ. Christ, the reality of the shadow, has come.

Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

Col 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Col 2:20 Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,

Col 2:21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not;

Mat 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

1) The ceremonial law pointed to Christ and is fulfilled in him.

2) Jesus perfectly obeyed the Law.

3) Jesus paid our penalty for breaking the Law.

The Law could not give us the strength to live right but the Spirit that we receive in the New Covenant can.

Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

Rom 8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

Rom 8:4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

The moral law as you see is still in effect. The requirements of the moral law are righteous.
Sundays are for recovering from hangovers!
nailed to the cross. We celebrate Sunday more now because that is when Jesus arose from the dead.
Christians are still under that law. it's one of the Ten Commandments.
The book of Hebrew explains it well...
Yes, It's a day of rest as Jesus did. It's a time for giving back to God what he has done for us. Meaning; Church.
